Washable Nappies

I haven't tried anything else but totsbots - but I think if you have bought enough then the drying time doesn't matter as much. I have 18 nappies and 6 wraps. I've just washed 9 nappies and admittedly tumble dried then for 10 minutes, and will wash 7 or 8 tomorrow morning while he's wearing one and one ready for lunchtime, so by the time he needs one in the afternoon/evening he'll have 8 dry ones and another lot almost dry. (This is without the rayburn on - they tend to dry quicker with that).
If the sun ever comes out again, I'd put them outside which should be quicker.

nappies tried and tested include... Bambino Mio pre-folds (use them most of all), Motherease one-size (okay but bulky on a little 'un), TotsBots (cute but take a fair while to dry), Boots all-in-one (dreadful, dreadful, dreadful!) and ModernBaby (good but definitely longer to dry than pre-folds)

Actually, overall, apart from the Boots ones, all the nappies I've tried have been good and nowhere near the work I thought a washable nappy would be.  In fact, I still can't believe how little work they actually involve.  Definitely wouldn't go back to disposables (no stinky festering nappies waiting for the rubbish to be collected any more - urgh!) and Maddy's not suffered from any extra nappy rash, so they seem to work really well all round.

I use a mixture of different wraps - NatureBaby, ModernBaby, Motherease and Bambino Mio (at last count!) and they all have their plus and minus points.  The ModernBaby ones seem to wash and keep really well, but the velcro can be a bit scratchy... the Motherease ones are okay, but not great on pre-folds and a bit bulky with the Motherease one-size... NatureBaby aren't bad - the poppers are kinder on Maddy's skin than velcro but they do have a habit of falling down a bit!  As for Bambino Mio, well - not too bad, bit leaky with newborn poop, but otherwise okay.

I’ve used flannel squares which one folds oneself, with a Kooshie wrap and a folded muslin as a booster for all three of my babies. I was given a free sample of some Diaper Basics, which I quite liked, just not enough to change systems. My nappies have been going strong for 8 years and, although I think the new systems are pretty groovy, I couldn’t think of a reason to change over. The wraps I used lasted about one and half babies each. Overall, I think that it’s well worth using washable nappies, we’ve certainly saved loads of money in the last 8 years and we’ve also helped pass on a cleaner environment to our children, which was a major point in persuading us to go for washables. When we started off with them, there was little information available (can you remember the days pre-google?), I think it’s great that new mothers get so much advice and choice!
