I then trawled the net to find out more and discovered that nappies had been evolving big time and I was missing out on the fun. I was also getting fed up with wraps plastered in super liquid poo. I found the nappy lady and got some great advice and changed my nappy system for something better when the baby was 14 weeks.

I was advised to try the Bumble and Mother Ease onesize as they dry quickly (important for me as I have no tumble drier). I was very impressed by the sample and so I looked around for cheaper options and bought more of the same shaped nappies. Of the two, I prefer the Bumble as the inner fleece is lined and really soft. It lasts longer as it is birth–two and it continues to fit well as the baby grows to toddler. The booster, to make it more absorbent, just pops on, it is easy to remove too. The whole thing is fastened with a nappi nippa which is very easy to use. The Mother Ease one size have snap in boosters which can be bought separately, I feel these are needed as without them they don’t retain vast amounts of wee. They also need a separate liner, I use a shaped fleece one. They still fit my “baby” even though he is now 30lb and they were definitely also a good buy. Both these systems need waterproof wraps, I have used: Mother Ease Airflow (nighttime), Rikki (OK but not great), Minki (bulky but cute!) and Nature Babies (the best I’ve used – they even have funky patterns)

Since buying these, I have bought other nappies to try out. I bought them secondhand, from ebay or from the Nappy Lady Classifieds. There are one size pocket nappies, Wonderoos and sized pocket nappies, Fuzzi Bunz, Minki and Nature Babys. These you stuff with absorbent material, like a prefold and microfibre cloth, the outsides of them are waterproof, the insides fleece lined. They are useful for out and about, quick fixes and for when other people look after your child. I managed to resell all that I had finished with, there is a massive market for second hand nappies.

I could go on about nappies forever, there is so much to say. Great advice is available from the Nappy Lady and from Kittykins. Twinkle, the Babycenter nappy board and UK Parents are also very helpful.
