There should be a warning on washable nappies - THEY ARE ADDICTIVE!!!

One addict shares her story:

With my first child I used a washing service which cost about £8 a week and was very convenient. The only thing I hated was the fact that the nappy bin and sack started smelling towards the end of the week before it was collected, this was mainly a strong smell of wee. The washing service used Bambino Mio prefolds with waterproof wraps and flushable liners. The service provided the newborn wraps, as the baby grew I replaced the newborn wraps with bigger ones. These I had to pay for myself. The bin, sacks and nappies were provided and the flushable liners were also available from them, if you couldn’t find another place to get them from.

When my second child was born, I decided to give washing them myself a go! I started with what I knew – Bambino Mio prefolds, wraps and liners. I bought two starter sets for 6-16lbs and so had 16 nappies and 6 wraps. I washed every other day, drying them on a clothes horse overnight or outside if the weather was good. Soon I found out that I needed a bigger lidded bucket, 9 litres was just not big enough! I also invested in a mesh laundry bag to use as a bin liner, with this I could dump all the nappies into the machine without having to handle each one. I discovered the wonders of white vinegar to make them softer, fabric conditioner makes them less absorbent.
