For J, he's encouraged to do whatever 'extra curricular' activities he wishes to do, and currently he enjoys taking part in basketball, steel drums and drama clubs at school.....has almost finished working through the local authority swimming programme, and is learning to cook at home (which gets tied in with internet surfing on healthy eating etc).   He also enjoys working on electronics projects with his father, learning about basic physics, electronics and electricity on the way....and is mad about astronomy!

There is a lot more available in terms of organised enrichment activities for secondary school children......there's some links below!  The school should be the first point of contact - most schools have a 'Gifted and Talented' policy, which you should be able to read if you ask for it.  N has attended summer workshops aimed at gifted children who enjoy science, and will hopefully be attending some summer camps where he will stay away from home next year.   At the end of year six, N got offered the chance (through his school) to go on a Science enrichment scheme for kids, called Bright Sparks, which was run on behalf of the LEA for 34 kids, by a university.   Unfortunately I can't remember which university (have a feeling it might have been London Uni)!   It may be worth contacting the local LEA to see if they run anything similar.  To give an idea of what was covered on the course N did, have a look at the course website:

Other organisations that offer enrichment activities are detailed in the links below.
