  • WWF International, Assistant, Network Performance Management

    WWF, the global conservation organization, is seeking to recruit an Assistant, Network Performance Management (80%) based at WWF International in Gland, Switzerland.

    This 80% position is responsible for providing administrative, analytical and communications support to the Director, Network Performance Management (50%), to Insight Project Manager and Project Coordinator (30%) using initiative, judgement, IT skills and knowledge of organisation.

    The key requirements are:

    • Commercial diploma or equivalent
    • At least 3 years relevant experience as an assistant in an international environment
    • Good organizational, administrative and prioritization skills
    • Diplomacy and ability to take initiative
    • Sensitivity and understanding to deal with a variety of situations and the ability to communicate well orally and in writing
    • Excellent computer skills (Adobe, Webex, etc.) and commitment to providing quality service
    • Good command of English, French (other languages an advantage)

  • WWF-France, Chargé(e) de Programme, « Gestion durable des ressources forestières des Guyanes »

    LA MISSION :
    Le/La Chargé(e) de Programme aura pour objectif la mise en oeuvre des actions identifiées dans le cadre du programme régional de gestion durable des ressources naturelles des Guyanes (Guyane Française, Suriname, Guyana, Nord du Bresil) financé par le Fonds Français pour l?Environnement Mondial, la Coopération Hollandaise (DGIS), et le WWF.
    Il intégrera l?équipe du WWF France en Guyane, et travaillera en étroite relation avec les partenaires institutionnels locaux et régionaux, sous la responsabilité du représentant local du WWF France en Guyane, et en lien avec le bureau régional WWF Guianas de Paramaribo (Suriname).

    Le programme régional de gestion durable des ressources naturelles des Guyanes vise la conservation de l'intégrité des écosystèmes forestiers et aquatiques du plateau des Guyanes et le maintien des processus écologiques responsables de leurs équilibres.

    Développé pour la période 2008-2011 ce programme comporte 5 composantes en Guyane :
    • Amélioration de la gestion des Aires Protégées de Guyane et renforcement des réseaux nationaux et régionaux (avec le Suriname, le Guyana, l?Amapà).
    • Réduction des impacts de l'orpaillage.
    • Amélioration de l'utilisation des ressources forestières grâce notamment à l'utilisation de la certification pour pérenniser les méthodes de gestion durable des forêts.
    • Maintien des populations viables d?espèces sauvages prioritaires
    • Communication et Education à l'environnement visant à promouvoir les changements de comportement qui permettront d?assurer les fonctions écologiques des écosystèmes du plateau des Guyanes et le développement durable des activités socio-économiques de la région.

    Le/La Chargé(e) de Programme aura pour mission de mettre en ?uvre, de coordonner et d?assurer le suivi des actions du programme de gestion durable des ressources naturelles des Guyanes, pour la partie Guyane.

    Il/elle assurera notamment :
    - L?animation et le secrétariat d?un comité technique de suivi pour la bonne mise en place des actions en Guyane (Elaboration d?un échéancier de travail montrant l?ensemble des actions, restitution des actions similaires menées dans les pays voisins, compte-rendu bilingues des rencontres).
    • La définition détaillée des actions à mener en Guyane afin de répondre aux objectifs fixés au niveau régional, l?identification des partenaires pour une mise en place efficace en Guyane, et un bon reporting technique et financier.
    • L?élaboration et le suivi technique des documents de formalisation (convention, contrats) soutenant les actions identifiées, et les rapports (français et anglais) d?étape.
    • Le suivi de terrain des interventions du WWF et des partenaires du programme.
    • Le suivi financier des actions couvertes par le programme.
    • La communication régulière autour du programme auprès des institutions locales et de l?ensemble des partenaires.

    LE (LA) CANDIDAT(E) :
    • Bac + 5 ( environnement ou en biologie ou école d?ingénieur ).
    • Expérience professionnelle de 5 ans en gestion de projets, en milieu tropical appréciée.
    • Anglais indispensable, portugais serait un plus.
    • Connaissances dans le domaine de l'écologie forestière, et de la faune sauvage, et/ou de la certification forestière, et/ou de l?industrie extractive.
    • Connaissance de l'organisation et du fonctionnement des institutions administratives régionales et départementales souhaitée.
    • Aptitude à la communication avec tous les acteurs, aptitude à la conduite et à l'animation de réunion.
    • Capacités et goût du travail en équipe multiculturelle, esprit d?analyse, esprit de synthèse et qualités rédactionnelles,
    • Permis de conduire B indispensable, et forte mobilité géographique indispensable.

    Conditions matérielles liées au poste :
    Le poste est à pourvoir au 1er septembre 2008 en CDD de 18 mois transformable en CDI.
    Le poste est basé au sein du bureau WWF ? Guyane à Cayenne (Guyane Française).
    La Fourchette salariale pour ce poste est de 2200 - 2500 ? brut sur 13 mois selon le profil du candidat.

  • Community Liaison Consutant for Vietnam programme

    WWF is conducting a 3 years project funded by UNDP-GEF and DANIDA ?Coastal & marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in the Con Dao islands region?. The project aims to strengthen local capacity for coastal & marine biodiversity conservation, improve the integration of conservation and environmental management into development planning, establish a sustainable financing mechanism for biodiversity conservation, and link local efforts to national strategies and policy development, thus contributing to the conservation of globally significant coastal and marine biodiversity. 

     

    WWF Vietnam Country Programme is seeking for experienced and qualified Vietnamese national candidates to fill the position COMMUNITY LIAISON CONSULTANT:

     

    Main responsibilities:

    The major duty is to liaise with recipient community (fishing community), the GEF-UNDP Project management Unit (PMU), private businesses, mass organizations, Con Dao National Park (CDNP), Community Consultative Group (CCG), Department of Fisheries and other district agencies in implementing the Alternative Income Generation (AIG) projects and livelihood support programmes identified in the Con Dao MPA Livelihoods Strategy. This would involve:

    Research and development on market linkages for local AIG business projects (sustainable mariculture and marine tourism-based transportation)

    Establishing personal relationships and business links between the AIG beneficiaries and private business

    Organizing and/or participating in relevant meetings with above groups and other agencies, such as District and Provincial government, to provide updates to - and receive feedback from ? key stakeholders, on matters related to the livelihood programme.

    Assist WWF and PMU inputs with the CCG and CDNP related to local governance improvement, particularly the formation of stakeholder community-based organization(s) (CBO) that are representative of the target groups under the livelihood support programme and which will effectively liaise with MPA managers, CCG and District officials 

    Work with recipient community in establishing partnerships with private business that promote and facilitate AIG projects and other livelihood support activities 

    Assist WWF and PMU with inputs to assist CCG/CBOs and recipient community in improving and/or completing a Monitoring and Evaluation system for AlG projects proposed in the livelihood programme

    Stimulate awareness of public and local authorities on the needs of community and institutional supports to facilitate livelihood development and fisheries management, in order to ensure appropriate service delivery and practice

    Assist WWF Vietnam staff and consultants with their related field assignments on Con Dao, in disseminating project information, and in providing regular updates to PMU.

     

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Proven ability to effectively communicate with local communities on issues related to sustainable development and/or environmental management

    Experience working on livelihood programmes, community development and/or market development for small enterprises

    Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues in Vietnam, particularly as they relate to coastal fisheries, as well as tourism (negative impacts as well as positive models).

    Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills

    Ability to work effectively and under minimal supervision 

    Bachelor degree (or higher), preferable in social sciences, business or environmental sciences.

    At least intermediate-level spoken and written English skills

    Computer skills: MS Office suite of software, email, internet, etc.

    Willing to spend minimum 50% of work time in Con Dao and willingness to travel when on mainland.

    Ability to clearly demonstrate availability and work with WWF and PMU to agree on a tentative schedule and work plan that is timed around site-specific factors (tourist season, PMU activities, WWF field work), projected over two consecutive 6-month work plans.  Some flexibility however is required of consultant.

     

    Candidate must be willing to spend minimum 50% of time on Con Dao (2-3 weeks per trip) and also willing to travel to southern provinces (e.g. Ninh Thuan, Vung Tau).  Candidate must be based in southern Vietnam.

  • Country Programme Manager ? Solomon Islands
    The Country Programme Manager (CPM) is WWF Western Melanesia?s senior in-country officer for the Solomon Islands programme, and is accountable for the overall coordination, management, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation, and reporting of the programme, conservation projects, staff, finances and administration. The CPM is responsible for the compliance of the WWF SI programme with all of WWF?s programme and operational standards and the monitoring and delivery of the satisfactory results on WWF?s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and for ensuring its successful integration into the Western Melanesia programme.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Strategic Planning and Leadership ? directing the development of WWF WMP?s Solomon Islands strategic plan in coordination with the global WWF International and WMP vision.
    • Project Management ? leading the effort to design projects and supervising their development, implementation and monitoring/evaluation.
    • Financial and Administrative Management ? ensure that appropriate policies, systems and procedures are in place in line with WWF International policies and ensure that project managers and finance and administration staff work together to properly manage and monitor the results of the Solomon Islands programme activities.
    • Human Resources Management - work with Human Resources/Personnel staff in the WWF WMPO and the WWF SI offices, as well as with all WWF SI staff, to ensure that human resources policies and procedures comply with Solomon Islands labour laws and policies, as well as with WWF International and WWF WMPO policies and procedures.
    • Representation ? Facilitate programme and project agreements with government, act as a focal point for national partners and organisations and understand and be familiar with external issues both nationally and in the region which impact the national programme.



    Requirements for the Position

    1. Knowledge
    Degree in natural resources science, planning, law or management, or equivalent experience and preferably at or studying towards postgraduate level. Thorough understanding of the SI geography, societies, economies, politics and pertinent issues of conservation and development.


    2. Experience
    Ten years of experience in a field related to conservation or natural resource management, or disciplines such as planning, law, or business/organisational management and with a strong demonstrated interest in conservation and the environment.


    3. Skills and Abilities
    Good inter-personal and organisational skills, including self-motivation and an ability to initiate actions and to follow through to satisfactory completion. An ability to communicate substantial ideas in writing and verbally is required. Demonstrates an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Has proven administration and management abilities.

    Minimum qualification required is a Bachelors degree in Environmental Science or a related field and at least 5 years of field experience in implementing and managing projects with extensive knowledge of natural resource management and community based conservation.

    It is preferable that the candidate is experienced in working in the mountain environment.

    Major responsibilities include effective management and coordination of the SHL program and associated projects, proper planning and effective field implementation of program activities, contributing to the development of new concepts and fundraising efforts, budget facilitation and preparing technical donor reports.
     
    The candidate should have excellent communication and coordination skills, including  skills in program/project planning, monitoring, report writing, preparing and delivering presentations, public speaking, facilitating, leading group discussions and liaising with donors. Excellent computer skills are required.

    Detailed Term of Reference

    Position Title : Program Officer-Sacred Himalayan Landscape (SHL) Program
    Reports to :
    Program Manager-SHL Program
    Program Areas:
    SHL areas including Sagarmatha National Park and Buffer Zone, Kangchenjunga Conservation Area, Langtang National Park and Buffer zone

    Major Functions

    In line with WWF Nepal?s Strategic Plan 2006-2011, SHL Strategic plan (2006-2016), and position papers, the Program Officer will be responsible for effective management of the SHL program and associated projects. This position will be responsible for program/projects planning, monitoring, reporting, networking, coordinating, and supporting fundraising efforts.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    Planning and field implementation:
    • Develop annual work plan with log frame in consultation with SHL Program Manager, Field Projects Managers and other Unit Heads.
    • Support for effective implementation of program/project activities in the field.
    • Review the workplan quarterly.
    • Monitor program/projects and provide regular feedback to grantees, field project implementers and subordinates.
    • Provide timely feedback to the supervisor on the programs/projects for strategic directions. 2. Budget Facilitation:
    • Review annual project budgets prepared by project managers.
    • Be responsible and accountable for the overall financial status of the SHL projects.
    • Assist Operations Department for timely reporting to the concerned donors. 3. Technical Report Preparation & Submission:
    • Prepare technical reports and send them to the concerned donors within the prescribed deadlines.
    • Highlight and document innovations as appropriate, and incorporate the lessons learnt in the next period of planning. 4. Program Development:
    • Support the Program Manager and Program Development Unit in developing new concepts.
    • Support the Program Development Unit in developing proposals as and when needed for fundraising.
    • Be innovative in envisioning the expansion of programs/projects.
    • Brief current and prospective donors as and when needed.
    Filed Visits:
    • Make regular field visits to designated project sites at least three times a year or as deemed necessary for activity level monitoring.
    • Coordination and Communication:
    • Frequently coordinate and communicate with existing and prospective partners and donors at national and international levels.
    • Ensure timely production and distribution of relevant publications.
    Policy and Advocacy:
    • Remain informed and updated on relevant policy issues.
    • Provide timely feedback to supervisor and take lead on addressing such issues.
    Other duties:
    • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
    Supervisory Responsibility: Consultants

    Working Relationship
    • Internal:  Interacts frequently with Program Manager, Project Managers, Program Officers as well as other unit heads. Interacts regularly with other WWF staff. 
    • External:  Interacts frequently with existing government, non-government and civil society partners, consultants, and grantees. Interacts regularly with partners, other WWF Global Program team and researchers.
    Minimum Work Requirements:
